FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

This section addresses common questions about using VRCT.

Getting Started

Q: Who is that character in the VRCT icon?

Chato
This character serves as the app's icon and is named Chato, VRCT's official mascot.
We commissioned this creation from creator Done.

Q: Which transcription engine should I use?

VRCT offers two main transcription engines:

  • Whisper: Recommended for most users

    • Works completely offline
    • More stable and reliable
    • Best for unstable network connections
    • Does not require external API access
  • Google: Alternative option

    • Requires stable internet connection
    • May not work in some regions with limited Google access
    • Can be affected by network issues

Recommendation: Start with Whisper for the most reliable experience.

See the Voice-to-Text Guide for more details.

Q: Which translation engine is best?

The choice depends on your needs:

  • DeepL: High-quality translations, especially for European languages
  • Google Translate: Wide language support, good for general use
  • LLM APIs: More natural and context-aware translations

Each engine has different strengths. Try a few to see which works best for your language pair.

See the Translation Engine Guide for more details.

Q: Do I need to run VRCT as administrator?

In most cases, no. However, you may need administrator privileges if:

  • Speaker2Log feature doesn't work properly
  • VRCT cannot access audio devices
  • You encounter permission-related errors

Try running as administrator if you experience issues with audio device detection.

Q: Why isn't my transcription working?

Common solutions:

  1. Check your microphone/speaker settings in Windows
  2. Try switching transcription engines (Whisper is more reliable)
  3. Verify audio device selection in VRCT settings
  4. Check if multiple audio devices with the same name exist - disable unused ones
  5. Restart VRCT if settings changes don't take effect

Voice Typing Mode (VR)

Q: What is Voice Typing Mode?

Voice Typing Mode allows you to input text into VR applications by speaking. When enabled:

  1. Your voice is transcribed in real-time
  2. The transcribed text is automatically copied to clipboard
  3. The text is pasted into the active VR application

This works without using OSC, so it supports any VR application that accepts clipboard input.

Q: Which VR applications support Voice Typing Mode?

Voice Typing Mode works with any VR application that supports clipboard paste input, including:

  • VRChat: World search, settings, any text input
  • VR Games: Chat, configuration menus
  • Productivity Apps: Text input in VR office applications

Q: How do I enable Voice Typing Mode?

  1. Put on your VR headset
  2. Open VRCT Config Window
  3. Go to VR Tab
  4. Check the Enable Voice Typing Mode checkbox
  5. Click Save
  6. Ensure Voice2Chatbox transcription is enabled
  7. Speak into your microphone

Q: Can I use Voice Typing Mode on desktop?

No, Voice Typing Mode only works when you're in VR (using SteamVR or compatible runtime). In desktop mode, transcribed text will not be pasted into applications.

Q: What languages does Voice Typing Mode support?

Voice Typing Mode supports all languages supported by your selected transcription engine:

  • Whisper: 99+ languages including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.
  • Google: Depends on Google's language support

The language used for transcription depends on your Voice2Chatbox language settings.

Q: Why isn't Voice Typing Mode working?

Common solutions:

  1. Verify you're in VR: Voice Typing Mode only works in VR mode (SteamVR active)
  2. Check Voice2Chatbox: Enable the Voice2Chatbox toggle to start transcription
  3. Ensure VR app is active: The target VR application must be in focus
  4. Verify clipboard support: Target application must support paste operations
  5. Check microphone settings: Ensure your microphone is properly configured
  6. Restart VRCT: If settings changes don't take effect

See the Voice Typing Mode Guide for more details.
