OBS Browser Source

Since v3.5.0, VRCT runs a small built-in HTTP server that serves a subtitle page for OBS. You add a single Browser Source in OBS pointing at VRCT's local URL, and your transcription / translation results are rendered on top of your stream or recording β€” no external overlay tool required.

Overview

  • VRCT hosts the subtitle page locally (HTTP server on 127.0.0.1).
  • The page is driven by the same real-time data as the WebSocket Integration feature, so what appears in OBS matches what VRCT transcribes and translates.
  • Text color and the server port are configurable.
info

This replaces the previous approach of building your own overlay from the raw WebSocket stream. That method still works β€” see WebSocket Integration β€” but for OBS the built-in page is the simplest option.

How to Enable

  1. Open VRCT and go to Config Window.
  2. In the Advanced (or Other) settings, find the OBS / HTTP server section and enable it. The WebSocket server is used to feed the page, so keep it enabled as well.
  3. Note the URL and port shown in the settings (default host 127.0.0.1).

Add the Browser Source in OBS

  1. In OBS, under Sources, click + β†’ Browser.
  2. Set URL to the address shown in VRCT's settings (for example http://127.0.0.1:<port>/).
  3. Set Width / Height to match the region where you want subtitles.
  4. Click OK. Subtitles appear whenever VRCT produces a transcription or translation result.

Configuration

SettingDescription
Enable OBS browser sourceStarts / stops the built-in HTTP server.
PortTCP port the page is served on. Change it if the default is already in use.
Text colorColor of the subtitle text rendered in the browser source.
WebSocket serverMust be enabled β€” it supplies the real-time data to the page.
note

Exact labels and the default port are shown in the Config Window. If OBS shows a blank source, confirm the HTTP server and the WebSocket server are both enabled and that the port matches the URL in OBS.

Troubleshooting

  • Blank browser source: make sure both the HTTP server and the WebSocket server are enabled, and that no other app is using the configured port.
  • No text appears: VRCT must be actively transcribing/translating. Test with Voice2Chatbox or Speaker2Log enabled.
  • Text hard to read: adjust the text color in VRCT, or add an OBS filter / background behind the source.
